10/30/17 - Raiatea Week 5 - No Miles or Money, Car "Lift" Again, Jason Our New Amie, Papi in a Lawn Chair

Iaorana tatou!

So this week wasn't as action packed as we had hoped because we decided against going to Tahaa, but never fear fabulous things happened instead! I feel like this whole week was just us me and Soeur Nicholls trying our best and nothing really worked out, but we did get some cool stories.

Our Healthy Life Choices - Cake and Baguettes
Out of Miles/Out of Money
First of all we are already over our amount of kilometers we are allowed to go (a big no-no), so we decided to take some food with us into our sector and just eat lunch in the back of our car. Turns out we are also broke because we get paid after today, so all we really had in the house was a cake members made us on a whim (thank heavens) and a baguette. Ah, mission life. Anyway, we got a couple weird looks from people driving by to just see two sister missionaries eating chocolate cake in the trunk of their car, but I mean, if you don't get weird looks every once in a while are you even living?

Chickens in the Wild
Stuck in the Mud
Another fun thing that happened was that we definitely got stuck in the mud in front of a potential investigators house, but good thing a bunch of super gigantic guys came out of nowhere and just picked up the front of our car and carried it out. How does this always happen to me? ;) I don't think we're going to be driving down any more super sketchy paths anytime soon... Maybe.

J_, Our New Investigator
Anyway, I'll save the best crazy thing for last, but let me give you an update on the investigators. Everyone is doing super awesome! Especially J_, he's a new amie for us, but has been taking the discussions over a couple years. He's super awesome and would have been baptized a while ago if his parents weren't really against the church. Anyway, we had a really powerful lesson with him this week while we read 1 Nephi 8 (Lehi's dream) in the Book of Mormon. One thing that's super hard to do is to help investigators come to their own answers when it's so much easier just to give them the meaning of a scripture or something. With this lesson though, J_ was reaching his own conclusions and was finding things he needed to change in his life all on his own! It's so cool seeing your investigators spiritually mature!!!

Doing What it Takes to Get To Church the French Polynesian Way
Ok, the moment you've all been waiting for: papi on a lawn chair. I didn't even realize I needed this in my life until I realized it perfectly describes what living in French Polynesia is like. So we were driving to church this Sunday when we came upon this truck. I kid you not, there were 8 people in this truck, three in the front (where there are seats and seatbelts), four on each of the corners in the back, and a Papi in the middle on a lawn chair. Anyway, these gems are in our ward and I just love that for them it was totally normal (I may or may not have sat on a lawn chair in a car without seats before), but it was just so funny for us.
French Polynesia in a Nutshell - Why is this n'importe quoi?
More street art! I didn't send any last week and felt a little guilty...

So anyway, that was my week!!! Have an awesome week and please wear your seatbelts! ;) Love you!
