8/14/17 Huahine Week 9 - A New Companion, Rolling Down a Mountain, A Stranger Takes Off with the Car

Iorana! Hope everyone's weeks went well! I know mine sure did!  A New Companion and Too Much In Common!!! Ok, STORY TIME!!! Once upon a time there was a Sister named Sister Sellers who was called to serve a mission on the beautiful island Huahine. Her trainer, Soeur Wissocq was so wonderful that when transfers came she was moved to a neighboring island called Raiatea to become an STL. Poor sister Sellers was so nervous! Who was her new companion going to be? Would they get along? Would she snore? All she had was the name the Assistants had given her, but neither her nor Soeur Wissocq had ever met Soeur Miller. Lo and behold, all of her fears vanished when she saw Soeur Miller in the airport. She could already tell they were going to be amazing friends and have wonderful adventures together. One of those adventures happened to be about 5 minutes after they first met. They loaded Soeur Miller's luggage into the car and Soeur Sellers handed Soeur Miller the keys to their ...

Iorana tatou! "My Living Room Wall that I Love" - Lindsay Raking Mangos and Climbing Trees Apparently I've been spelling that wrong this whole time. I feel like my whole life is a lie. So this week was kind of uneventful... JK, there's no such thing as uneventful in Huahine! So something that I'm coming to realize is when Soeur Wissocq wants something, she does everything in her power to get it. It's served her well in her life, straight A's, very popular, ect. It has a downside though, and I will demonstrate this in a story that definitely happened this week. It was a  Tuesday  night like any other. We were coming to the close of our English class when all of the sudden a tree full of unripe mangos caught Soeur Wissocq's eye. Ok, long story short after English class we were throwing rakes into this tree to get mangos down while members tried to climb it. It's moments like this where I wish my mission life was a TV show because ...

Iorana Tatou! The Art of Flower Crowns So this week was another super awesome week so prepare yourself. It started out fabulous on P-day because we had the opportunity to learn how to make those awesome flower crowns! It's actually really easy and I think you could do it with any kind of flower. Souer Wissocq loves them and has made a couple since then to wear around and feel like an island princess. ;) Sister Wissocq's Birthday It was her birthday this week!!! I am so glad it's over because she was so worried people would forget so she reminded people constantly. ;) It was so awesome because some members bought her a cake (how sweet is that???) and we had pizza so it was a huge party. It was kinda funny actually because it was just us two in the house with a huge pizza and a gigantic cake. We broke out the bingo and listened to some intense Mormon Tabernacle Choir, so I think it was a birthday she won't soon forget. ;) Misfortune, Wild Dogs, ...

Iorana!!!  Breakfast at the House Picture with Papi Rodger Sister Wissocq and Food This week has been amazing, so buckle up! For starters Soeur Wissocq is a super good cook and I count my blessings everyday for that because I have no idea what to do with most of this foreign food. ;) T hey have AMAZING coconut bread here that I'm determined to learn how to make before I come home. It's to die for.   They call white people "Popa", only my companion has called me popa so far though. :) Soeur Wissocq is from Venezuela, but moved to France when she was 17 so she's fluent in French and Spanish.  I love having so much time to study in the mornings! This next week will not be like that at all. ;) My nose isn't stuffy anymore, but I have a cough still. :) Cow Horn Bestowal Another thing I'm really grateful for is how kind the people are here. Andre gave us some cow horns he had lying around because he knew that Soeur Wissocq loves cows....

Iorana Everyone! Touring the Island that Inspired the Movie " Viana" , not  Moana This week has been crazy awesome! After I emailed on Monday we went with the Elders and a couple members and toured some of the beautiful beaches here! I wish cameras could capture the beauty of Huahine, but it's just not possible. You're just going to have to picture everything 100 times prettier and then maybe you can understand the beauty I'm surrounded by constantly! Also, fun fact, I'm on the island that inspired the new Disney movie Moana. How cool is that? My island is kind of shaped like a sleeping pregnant woman (like in Moana, except I don't think she was pregnant)... I wish I had a picture, but I'll get one for next week! Also, Moana is actually a boy's name here so in the Tahitian version they changed that name to the female version, Viana.
